When closed, the lamp is a compact 0.75" high, when fully opened it is 8.25" high. In between height levels are 3.5" and 6".  The lamp turns on when opened; you can also turn it on/off and adjust the brightness by pressing and holding the power button located on the top of the lamp.  Rechargeable 700mAh/3.7V battery.
